The "NCACTE Teacher of the Year" Award is to recognize a teacher who is providing outstanding CTE programs for youth and/or adults in their respective field and community. The recipient of this award must have made significant contributions toward innovative, unique and novel programs that are serving to improve and promote CTE. In a letter of support for our teacher of the year, it was stated by her principal that "she has an unquenchable thirst to be successful in the field of education. She has adopted the philosophy that all students can learn and she will do everything within her power to make each and every student successful. Her passion to see students become successful is overwhelming." One of her students said, "Mrs. Yarborough is such a remarkable teacher when it comes to teaching. She understands us kids, and realizes that sometimes we are going to make mistakes. She helps us in those times that we do make those mistakes. She gets down to our level and works with us. To most of us kids she is like a parent. I pray and hope that every kid in high school takes her classes to see how much of a remarkably, outstanding woman she is."
The "NCACTE Outstanding Career and Technical Professional" Award is to recognize CTE educators, other than full-time classroom/laboratory teachers, who have recently provided or currently are providing significant contributions to professional associations and CTE programs for youth and/or adults in their field, community, and state. The recipient of this award must have made significant contributions toward innovative, unique and novel programs; and/or improvement, promotion, research or development of CTE programs. In a letter of support for our winner, it was stated by her CTE Director, "She approaches all tasks with diligence and a "can do" attitude. She works closely with teachers to ensure that they have all of the resources necessary to deliver quality instruction." The Southeast Region CTE Coordinator said "Mrs. Tucker has been open-minded to embrace the many changes in CTE this past year. She has been proactive in preparing herself and the peers she leads to anticipate the changes needed to move forward with new rules, regulations, procedures, and expectations." Madeline consistently exceeds the expectations of her job The "NCACTE Outstanding Teacher in Community Service" Award is to recognize a teacher with significant accomplishments and outstanding leadership in programs and activities that promote community involvement. The recipient of this award must have made significant contributions toward training, motivating, and inspiring their peers and students to become involved in programs and projects that benefit their communities. A community leader said in his letter of support … "Karen's leadership is broad and while it might be easy to simply point to what she has done for the Community Blood Center Collection, she has done much more to engage, inspire and support her students." As an example, one of her students was in need of a bone marrow transplant. Karen let the students to conduct a bone marrow drive teaching them the importance of supporting each other in the spirit of community. The student lost a valiant battle with leukemia and Karen worked diligently to establish a scholarship fund in the student's honor. Karen's principal said "the success of our Medical Science and Biotechnology Academy is a testament to her expertise and wisdom in helping students and teachers reach their full potential."
The "NCACTE Outstanding New Career and Technical Teacher" Award is meant to encourage new teachers to remain in the profession. The recipient of this award must have made significant contributions toward innovative, unique and novel programs and have shown a professional commitment early in his/her career. Our "New CTE Teacher of the Year" believes it is very important to pass on the experiences learned through life to those that are younger. He believes that this will help them whether early in their life or later to make a decision on what is good for them. Our winner's CTE Director said, "He works tirelessly to help all students achieve - as is the heart of a teacher." His principal praised him by saying, "He demonstrates a passion for his profession and a desire to see students learn and succeed through CTE." His praises are endless as one of his students states, "Mr. Thibault pushes you to see that you have the ability to succeed. He has taught me so much about personal responsibility and leadership. Mr. Thibault continues to inspire me to work harder to ultimately be a better person." Once again, congratulations to all of our 2009 NCACTE Award winners. Our state winners will compete in the upcoming Region II competition. |
