Trade and Industrial Education...
2011-2012 NCTIETA Officers David Barbour - President, Dennis Marshall - President Elect, Tammy Bradley - Secretary, Mike Lewis - Past President, Tony Bello - Treasurer The North Carolina Trade and Industrial Education Teachers' Association had a very full 2010-2011 school year with Regional T&I/Tech Ed Update workshops conducted in all eight regions, one of the best fall T&I conferences we have ever had featuring great workshops and tours around Fort Bragg, our involvement in SkillsUSA events such as Camp Dixie Leadership conference and participation in all 8 SkillsUSA regional events, and a great T&I Summer Conference. NCTIETA was also well represented in NCACTE. Our leadership team attended all NCACTE and ACTE conferences and events including the state and national policy seminars. The most important events we attended involved meeting you! NCTIETA is YOUR professional organization. It only exists because of you and for you, the Trades and Industrial Education Professional. Of all divisions within NCACTE, NCTIETA's members recognize the need for industry involvement and support. We also recognize the need to have an influence on those who make our jobs better or worse, our elected officials. We must work together to have an influence by growing our membership and communicating to our industry partners our needs and issues. In turn, these partners will provide key resources for our success. Sometime these resources are funds to conduct workshops or provide networking opportunities. Other times they provide technical expertise by training or materials. They also have a voice with our elected officials that can change direction of programs and provide new directions. These partners recognize the need for our programs and are willing to assist in whatever way they can. Think about, their future depends largely on our current and future success. We are in this together. As the new 2011-2012 NCTIETA President, I am honored to serve this organization. I believe we need to work together as educators, industry partners, parents, and students to provide the best future for everyone. In the 90's, I worked for Ericsson Mobile Phone. We had a motto I believe NCTIETA needs to adopt: "Together We Can!" Together we can build our organization to be the premier professional development organization for all Trade and Industrial Teachers. Together we can build partnerships with Industry that will provide the resources each of us needs to accomplish our educational objectives even in this down economy. Together we can show the need for skilled laborers in our state and how T&I meet those training requirements. And, together we can build a relationship with our elected officials that will provide the support of our programs that will endure these hard times. Together we can, but separate, we fail. The choice is yours. Will you be a part of this exciting movement that can change the face of Trade and Industrial Education during the 2011-2012 school year? I hope you say "I WILL!"
